St. Jude patient says he’s sick after eating raw chicken from Wendy’s

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The family of a St. Jude patient reached out to WREG concerned about a meal purchased at a local fast food restaurant that appeared to be uncooked.

Alex Matlock shared a video with us showing what appears to be uncooked chicken biscuits she received from Wendy’s.

She bought them for her sister and her nephew, 12-year-old Jerome Davis Jr., who is a patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jerome and his mother ate some of the sandwich before noticing they were raw.

“I just looked down once I was almost done with mine and discovered that the sandwich was completely raw on the inside,” said his mother Valencia Perkins.

Jerome, who was diagnosed with cancer in December says he’s still sick from the uncooked food.

“My auntie brought us Wendy’s. We started eating. Mine didn’t taste right. My mom came over, looked inside and it was raw,” he said. “Today, I’ve been throwing up, just don’t feel right. I don’t want to eat there anymore.”

Matlock returned to the Wendy’s on Washington Avenue and Danny Thomas Boulevard. She confronted the manager, who began crying when she realized one of the burgers were consumed by a St. Jude patient.

“Those tears didn’t mean nothing to me,” Matlock said. “I can only imagine how many other people that were in front of me, behind me, got the same sandwich and didn’t say anything.”

Perkins says she is looking to get a lawyer involved.

We reached out to Wendy’s corporate team and they have yet to respond. However, the restaurant received a 94 on its last inspection by the Shelby County Health Department in January.
