The IIHS recently evaluated the performance of forward collision avoidance systems offered in 74 midsize sedans and SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years and rated them as being either “basic,” “advanced,” or “superior,” according to whether or not they provide an autonomous function and, if so equipped, how effective it is in tests conducted at 12 and 25 mph.
