SRSO announces the death of Sgt. James Conkell after a battle with illness

The Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office announced that one of their deputies died after a battle with an undisclosed illness.

Sgt. James Conkell died Thursday at 46 years old, according to the SRSO, after "peacefully passing away" due to the illness.

"Our hearts ache as we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," an SRSO Facebook post said. "Sgt. Conkell's dedication and spirit will be deeply missed."

Conkell served the department and Santa Rosa County area for 12 years.

SRSO spokesperson Jillian Durkin told the News Journal that Conkell "always made everyone laugh, and he will be deeply missed."
