Springs Utilities burying electric lines on Nevada Ave.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) started work on North Nevada Avenue in March after previous windstorms showed the need for power lines to be moved underground.

According to Springs Utilities, during December 2021 windstorms, a section of N. Nevada Ave. between East Harrison Street and Commerce Street experienced several failures related to the utility poles holding up electrical wire.

Springs Utilities will move one mile of electric lines underground along North Nevada Ave to safeguard the electrical grid from further failures. The project started earlier in March, and Springs Utilities expects work to be finished by July 2024.

As part of the construction process, the utility company said crews will install electric equipment within the roadway, requiring temporary lane closures. Springs Utilities asks the public to drive with care in the area.
