Springfield Police seize $34k in cocaine, suspect arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A recent drug bust in Springfield resulted in $34,000 worth of cocaine being taken off the streets, Springfield Police said.

Officials said the bust happened when officers in the Proactive Crime Unit searched a home in the area of Wheeler and Cincinnati Avenues. Prior to the warrant being served, officers located the suspect in their investigation — 25-year-old Octavion Williams — and took him into custody.

As he was arrested, officers found just over five grams of crack cocaine on his person.

When officers searched the home on Wheeler, they found 669.24 grams of cocaine, or one-and-a-half pounds, worth an estimated $34,000. They also found two digital scales and $14,000 in cash.

Williams was arrested on preliminary charges that include manufacturing and possessing cocaine. He was booked into the Sangamon County Jail pending formal charging by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
