Springdale Public Schools announces K-3 literacy initiative

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Springdale Public Schools announced a new literacy initiative with a big goal on May 23.

The school district’s new K-3 literacy initiative will teach five pillars of literacy in the classroom including fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

The school’s goal is for each student to be on or above grade level in reading. The school district believes strong literacy skills are critical to a student’s success.

“Several of us engage in conversations everday. Many of us read, and you just do it like it’s second nature. Well where did all that come from? That all came from that K-3 piece in your life,” said Trent Jones with the school district.

The school encourages parents to learn more about the initiative and how they can get involved in their child’s literacy development here.
