Springdale nightclub placed on probation, fined after fatal shooting

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control is awaiting a response from the Zabana Night Club after serving it Monday with penalties for a deadly shooting that occurred outside the club in December.

The shooting involved the club’s security guard, who shot a customer after he pulled out a gun and pointed it at the guard.

Washington County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Denis Dean told KNWA/FOX24 in April that the shooting was found to be justified and the security guard did not face charges.

ABC served Zabana Night Club with a $2,000 fine and a six-month probation period for “failure to be a good neighbor” and having a weapon on campus.

Scott Hardin with ABC says Zabana is facing these punishments for allowing someone in the night club with a weapon and a shooting happening on their premises, which puts the public in danger.

“There is always that possibility they could decide not to push this because again if you go to the ABC board they could dismiss it,” Hardin said. “They could uphold it totally or they could enhance it, so you’re taking that gamble anytime you go before the board.”

The club has 15 days to appeal the penalty and Hardin says he anticipates Zabana will appeal the penalties.
