Spring Sports Rewind: Weekend’s high school spring sports results and our honor roll

Northwest Cabarrus athletic officials will retire the jersey of former baseball standout Kyle Seager, in special ceremonies Monday evening.

Seager’s No. 9 jersey will be retired in ceremonies set for 5:30 p.m. at Cannon Baller Stadium in Kannapolis. Seager now plays for the Seattle Mariners.

The special ceremonies will precede a 6 p.m. game between Northwest Cabarrus and A.L. Brown.

Weekend honor roll

Here are top performers in weekend high school spring sports. We encourage coaches to email results and honor roll nominees daily to obspreps@gmail.com.

Conner Barozzino (Hickory Grove Christian baseball): Barozzino fired no-hit ball over five innings and added a single and a home run at bat, as the Lions trounced Porter Ridge 8-0.

Scarlett Dressler (Davidson Day girls’ soccer): Dressler’s two goals and an assist led the Patriots past Gaston Day 4-0.

Lauren Grose (Charlotte Catholic track and field): Grose captured the triple jump and the long jump in the Spartan Relays at Sun Valley. She won the triple jump by more than 1 1/2 feet.

Reese Guerin (South Mecklenburg baseball): Guerin had two hits and three RBI, helping the Sabres to a 5-4 victory over Lake Norman.

Dalton Hammonds (Clover baseball): Hammonds, a junior infielder, had two hits, two RBI and scored once in Clover’s 8-2 victory at Northwestern.

Anthony Hawkins (Hickory Grove Christian track and field): Hawkins, standout running back for Hickory Grove’s football team, won the shot put and discus in the Spartan Relays at Sun Valley.

Seven Hope (Independence girls’ softball): Hope singled and doubled, as the Patriots rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and edged Southwestern 4A foe Charlotte Catholic 7-6.

James Peters (Charlotte Latin baseball): Peters, a senior, fired three-hit ball over six innings and struck out eight, as the Hawks blanked Carmel Christian 6-0.

Addison Rowland (Palisades baseball): Rowland singled, doubled, scored five runs, and drove in three more, as the Pumas trounced Berry 22-4 in a SoMeck 4A game.

Avery Rush (Hough girls’ soccer): Rush’s two goals helped the Huskies down perennial state power Cardinal Gibbons 3-1 at the Brittany Soccer Showcase in Wilson.

Tyler Schwartz (Indian Land boys’ soccer): Schwartz had three goals and an assist, as the Warriors rolled to a 6-1 victory over York in an S.C. Region 3 4A match.

Natalya Solo (Porter Ridge girls’ softball): Solo continued her blazing start to the season, tossing a shutout and striking out 13 in the Pirates’ 6-0 victory at Ardrey Kell.
