Spring Recycling Guide aims to keep items out of landfill

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — With spring cleaning on the horizon, the Kent County Department of Public Works has created a tool to help you figure out what’s recyclable and what’s not.

The 2024 Spring Recycling Guide, which was released on Thursday, can help you properly dispose of items from cartons to plastic containers.

Inside, you’ll find a list of recyclable items, like clean aluminum foil, cans that have been rinsed and corrugated plastic yard signs. And for items like scrap metal, propane tanks, bulky plastics and electronics that can’t be dropped in the recycling bin, the guide offers alternatives so that they don’t have to go to the landfill.

“So many items that get placed in residents’ trash bins can be disposed of in a better way, and the DPW’s Spring Recycling Guide offers helpful information to help protect our environment,” said Katelyn Kikstra, waste reduction educator at the DPW, in a statement.

For more information, you can visit the DPW’s website. The department also offers an online directory, which lets you search for specific items.
