Spring fever will certainly hit hard this week before reality sets in by the weekend

Monday morning will be a bit foggy for the eastern mountain while a damp and dewy morning greets those in the valleys and western counties. Starting the day in the mid and upper 40s, we’ll steadily warm up through the day into the 60s by midday. For those west of I-77, the upper 60s and low 70s await you this afternoon while those towards the east hang in the mid 60s. Southeast winds 5-10mph tend to keep our eastern counties a bit cooler than our western ones.

Tonight southeast winds increase a touch to 10-15mph for a light and breezy evening. Temps slide back into the 50s by 9pm. Considering our average low is 30 degrees, we’ll be “March mild” tonight with lows in the mid and upper 40s.

Tuesday starts strong with plenty of sunshine and with a warmer night temps rise steadily into the 70s for the afternoon with more a southern breeze. Clouds will increase through the day with a chance of a sprinkle or two for the evening hours. A coastal system pushes north and an advancing cold front means we’ll be stuck in the middle. By the late night hours, the cold front towards the west wins the battle and marches across the region with with cloudy skies and light showers through Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will be a soggy day and a bit breezy at times. A low towards our south slides north through Virginia keeping showers, some steady at times, alive through the day. Those towards the eastern state line will see more rain than those towards the west but bank on a damp and gloomy day regardless of where you are. Temps take a hit with the morning cold front as we struggle our way into the 50s for highs.

Thursday we dry out for a spell with mostly cloudy skies to start. A damp and cool morning turns into an above average day with temps nudging the 60 degree mark. Sunshine will try to peek through the clouds in the afternoon but those clouds increase once again Thursday night as another cold front waits towards the west. Overnight lows remain steady with the extra clouds holding in the upper 40s and low 50s.

Friday morning see the cold front push through the region bringing steady showers through until midday. By the afternoon showers become more scattered but still a good day for the umbrella. Winds remain out of the west-southwest helping temps remain in the upper 50s and low 60s.

Saturday morning, a few light scattered showers continue to push through as we begin to push the system out. It’ll take some time but peeks of sunshine are possible in the afternoon. Temps still manage to push the upper 50s and low 60s before northwest winds take over Saturday afternoon which will drop temps quickly. Overnight lows dip into the mid and upper 30s.

Sunday is a brisk start after such a mild week and temps don’t move much with northwest winds in charge of the day. A few passing light showers are possible, especially along the eastern mountains. Even a snowflake or two can’t be ruled out. Highs only manage the mid 40s but wind chills will make the day feel much colder. By Sunday evening, we’ll being to dry out but clearer skies at night means lows can dip back below freezing. A warning sign to eager gardeners who felt the urge to start early.

In your extended forecast temps rebound nicely but we’re back in the cold mornings, mild afternoon runs. Afternoon highs look to remain above seasonal averages with a good run towards 60s by the end of next week.
