ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Thousands of travelers are making their way through St. Louis Lambert International Airport for spring break. Travelers said things were calm on Tuesday considering it is the middle of spring break, when millions of people are out.

“It’s not been too busy,” Trenton Brinkley said. He and Xander Colvin took advantage of the hours before their connecting flights home. Both are in the military and were dropped off at the airport at 10 a.m. They said getting in and out of the airport was surprisingly easy.

“We just went to see the arch because obviously we’re not from here,” Brinkley said. “So, we saw the Arch, and Metro was easy to get onto, and everything has been easy so far.”

Airport officials said depending on the time of day you are traveling can make a significant difference.

“The three heaviest times of day would be the 6 a.m. that sort of noon travel, and then that 6 p.m. Then you get a really late push at night of the arriving flights around 10, 10:30,” airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said. She said this week is bringing in more travelers than last week.

The TSA website shows that starting last Saturday through Tuesday morning, 7.7 million people have made their way through security checkpoints across the county. During the same time frame last year, TSA said they saw 7.3 million people.

“We’ve seen a lot of days this week where there has been 20,000–21,000 through the checkpoint; that means you have 40,000–42,000 coming and going and then you add the connecting traffic, which usually adds another 4,000–5,000 in,” Hamm-Niebruegge said.
