OK Blood Institute launches new campaign

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The Our Blood Institute (OBI) is asking Oklahoma donors to spring into action and supporti the local blood supply through the Spring Break.

Grow together and Renew Life with Our Blood Institute and Oklahoma’s News 4 are teaming up on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15. for two of OBI’s popular donor events as the new season approaches.

Participants who are successful donors who give blood at an Our Blood
Institute donor center for Renew Life will receive a roughleaf dogwood OR red mulberry
seedling from the Oklahoma Forestry Services, a “Stand Tall and Donate” T-shirt and one
free entry to the OKC Zoo. (while supplies last)

Following Renew Life, OBI’s Lotto Pot O’ Gold Giveaway kicks off Saturday, March 16.

Participants who give blood at an Our Blood Institute donor center or mobile drive between March 16 – 22 to receive a Lotto Pot O’ Gold scratcher. Scratch your ticket to unveil a surprise! You could walk away with a $200 or $100 Visa gift card or other fun prizes. Donors will also receive a “Stand Tall and Donate” T-shirt and one free entry to the OKC Zoo. (*while supplies last)

“March is a time we typically see low donor turnout with donors out of their normal schedules
due to Spring Break and having nicer weather,” says Dr. John Armitage, president and CEO of
Our Blood Institute.

Dr. Armitage concluded saying, “But accidents happen, and those battling cancer or other life-threatening conditions still need lifesaving blood. We urge all healthy adults to take an hour of their time to donate before they leave town or get busy with Spring Break activities.”

Headlines

According to OBI, every two seconds, someone needs blood, and the supply must be constantly renewed. It takes approximately 1,200 donors a day to meet those needs.

You must be healthy and 16 years old* or older to give blood. Appointments to donate can be made online at obi.org or by calling 877-340-8777.

Walk-ins are also welcome.
