[UPDATED] Can You Spot Why These "Pitch Perfect 3" Cast Photos Are Getting Backlash For Alleged Fat Shaming?

From Seventeen

Cast members have been sharing photos from the set of Pitch Perfect 3, and fans are loving what appears to be the new '40s style outfits of the Bellas. But with all of the love comes a bit of backlash.

Look at this photo that Rebel Wilson shared last week with costars Brittany Snow and Chrissie Fit. See anything weird? Whereas Snow and Fit are wearing skimpy halter tops, Wilson is much more covered up in a scoop-neck, short-sleeve shirt.

As Refinery 29 first pointed out, other photos show the rest of the Bellas, including Anna Kendrick, wearing the same revealing top.

Except for Ester Dean, who appears to be wearing the same short-sleeve shirt as Wilson.

We'll have to wait until the film comes out in December to really know what's going on, but to the casual observer, it certainly seems like the more full-figured cast members are dressed in a manner to cover up their bodies, which is not cool.

We don't want to make assumptions, because Wilson did post this photo herself and seems pretty proud and happy with it, but then again, it is also difficult not to do so when her character's name is Fat Amy and her predominant presence in the film involves making jokes about her weight.

UPDATE 03/28, 6:10 p.m.: On Monday, the film's costume designer, Salvador Perez, addressed #sleevegate on Twitter, claiming that Rebel Wilson chose the controversial top herself.

"I let each actor decide how their costume fit, it was their choice," he wrote. "Rebel, Ester & Hana Mae wanted sleeves, #sleevegate."
