Sporting beats Guimaraes, stays 2nd in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Sporting Lisbon beat Guimaraes 1-0 on Saturday to remain undefeated at home this season and provisionally cut into Benfica's lead at the top of the Portuguese league standings.

Defender Faustino Rojo scored the game's only goal in the 49th minute from a cross by Carlos Mane.

The victory left Sporting in second place. Benfica is four points ahead of Sporting before it visits Braga on Sunday.
