Spontaneous combustion sparked Fresno debris fire, officials say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fire crews battled a debris fire at a recycling manufacturing yard in south Fresno, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

The fire department responded to a debris fire Thursday around 9 p.m. near Golden State and North Avenue between Maple and Cedar Avenues.

More than 28 firefighters were called to the scene. The business owner also helped put the fire out by allowing the use of his heavy equipment.

Firefighters say the fire was sparked by spontaneous combustion through the decomposition of the material processed at the facility.
