Spirit Halloween continues ‘ongoing support’ to USA Health’s Mapp Child and Family Life Program

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Spirit Halloween is making an impact beyond their pop-up stores during the Halloween Season. According to a press release, Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children organization — a fundraising effort to make hospitals less scary for children — donated $55,000 to USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Hospital officials say the funding will go to their Mapp Child and Family Life Program — a program that, along with the Class Act program, helps to offer school services to children who are receiving healthcare at the hospital.

Each year, Spirit Halloween donates a portion of its sales to the program, and the funding comes from donations from shoppers at Mobile and Baldwin Spirit Halloween locations.

“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from Spirit of Children,” said Kim Thompson-Yates, who leads the Mapp Child and Family Life Program at Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Along with the monetary donations, hospital officials say that Spirit donates costumes and other items to help children during hospital stays.

“This funding, along with yearly donations of costumes and other items help us to make sure our patients and their caregivers have positive experiences during their hospital stays,” said Thompson-Yates.

Debbie Browning, MSN, RN, CENP, hospital CEO, added, “For a child, being able to select a costume and get dressed up is a rite of passage that should not be neglected just because they happen to be sick or injured. Through this generous, ongoing support, our staff can help create a fun atmosphere at the hospital as we celebrate the not-so-scary aspects of Halloween and other special occasions throughout the year.”
