Spirit Air gets in on the 'get mile high' jokes with Denver fares

Spirit Airlines, keenly aware that Colorado has recently legalized recreational marijuana, has launched a tongue-in-cheek promotion aimed at folks who may be considering a celebratory trip to the mile-high city of Denver.

The discount airline's website features an ad that reads, "The No Smoking Sign Is Off (in Colorado). Get mile high with $10 off your next flight. Fares so low they're barely legal in some states." The graphic was reportedly also sent out via email.

The promo quickly sparked a flame on Twitter. Some folks seemed to think it was smart business and in good humor.

The joke didn't work for everybody, though.

Spirit Airlines is no stranger to tawdry promos. In years past, the discount carrier has featured ads related to Anthony Weiner and the Secret Service prostitution scandal.
