'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Teaser: The Spidey Suit Gets Its Wings

Spider-Man gets a boost from a fellow Avenger in the 15-second teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming (in theaters July 7). The clip, above, reveals that Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, has given the superhero suit worn by Peter Parker (Tom Holland) a “minor upgrade.” The new costume includes something not yet seen on any cinematic Spider-Man: web wings.

So can Spider-Man fly now? Not really — but he can glide through the air. The arm webs are a classic part of Spider-Man’s look, dating back to his original 1962 appearance in Marvel comics.

When artist John Romita took over the character from co-creator Steve Ditko in the late ’60s, the web wings were gradually discarded. But the latest onscreen Spider-Man seems pretty psyched about them. “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!” he says in the teaser.

The short clip — which is shot from the lo-fi point-of-view of Holland’s Parker — features Jon Favreau in the role of Tony Stark’s bodyguard Happy Hogan. A full trailer will premiere Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
