Special gift honors Corporal Ben Cooper during Miracle League finale

JOPLIN, Mo. — The widow of a fallen Joplin police officer receives a special gift, today.

You’ll remember, last October, the bridge at 29th and Range Line was officially recognized as the “Corporal Ben Cooper Memorial Bridge”.

Corporal Cooper’s wife, Roxy Cooper, was so impressed with the sign that stands next to the roadway, she wanted an exact replica of it for her own home. That wish came true, today.

During the season finale of the Joplin Miracle League season, that replica was presented to the Cooper family by Missouri Senator Jill Carter.

Senator Carter tells us she’s had a chance to personally get to know Cooper, and says she just wants to help honor Corporal Cooper.

“It’s been such a phenomenal experience to get to know her. She’s such a strength in the community – and to see her reaching out to people, constantly, she’s just honestly an amazing person,” said Sen. Jill Carter, (R-MO) 32nd District.

“I think that all of the fallen should be remembered, but the way that the community always supports and they keep coming back, year-after-year – I mean, it’s been over two years, and still, the support has not faded. They always show up and they always take an interest,” said Roxy Cooper, wife of Cpl. Ben Cooper.

Cooper’s daughter is also a participant in this season’s Joplin Miracle League.

Senator Carter also had the honor to throw out the first pitch for one of today’s games between the “Rockies” and the “A’s”.

It was a perfect throw, which allowed Thoren Boyer to get a run to first base.
