Spanish club won't play rest of season after 12-0 defeat

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — A third-division Spanish club won't play the rest of the season after a record-tying 12-0 defeat sealed its relegation.

Founded in 1921 in eastern Spain, Eldense said on Sunday it will provisionally cease all sporting activity and end its contract with a group of Italian investors, a day after its humiliation at Barcelona "B'' team.

The 12-0 loss equaled a record for Spain's third division. Extremadura thrashed Portuense in 1993.

Televised images from the match showed some of Barcelona's team consoling a Eldense player in tears after the final whistle.

Eldense has six matches left this season. It is unclear how they will be resolved.

Barcelona B leads its regional group of the third division.
