Dow hits new closing high

Winners and losers

Stocks in the red today include Express as same store sales and the retailer’s full year forecast missed the mark, NanoString Technologies as the biotech firm announced a secondary offering of 3 million shares, and HP Enterprise – shares of the networking and data unit tumbling after it reported a big drop in server business revenue.

Stocks in the green today include Dollar General as the discounter beat on both the top and bottom lines, Goodyear Tire as Morgan Stanley upgraded shares to Overweight, citing more tire sales from autonomous driving, and Palo Alto Networks – shares of the cyber security firm on fire as revenue and profit topped expectations, with customer additions hitting near record levels.

How chatbots are changing retail

Looking ahead

  • At 8:30 a.m. it’s the big one. We’ll get the latest on the jobs situation, with May’s payroll and unemployment numbers. The Street is looking for a gain of 185,000 jobs.

  • And before the bell we’ll get earnings from luxury outerwear retailer Canada Goose, which hit a new all time high today. This will be the company’s first earnings report since its IPO in March.

  • Finally, Warner Brothers will be looking for its big summer blockbuster ‘Wonder Woman’ to conquer the box office this weekend with an expected $95 million-plus nationwide debut.
