Southwest schedules first flights in Memphis

Southwest Airlines is scheduling its first flights to and from Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Southwest Airlines Co. has already begun scheduling its first flights to and from Memphis — a move that Memphians are hoping will bring down the cost of air travel.

The airline is expected to make the official announcement on Tuesday, but the flights are already being displayed on Southwest.com.

Memphians have been waiting a long time for the low-cost airline to come to the Bluff City. The company website shows that flights to and from Memphis begin Nov. 3 and significant discounts are offered by booking online. Beginning in November, the airline will offer daily non-stop service between Memphis and Orlando, Chicago and Baltimore/Washington D.C.
