Southwest flight makes unplanned landing with broken window

A Southwest Airlines flight made an unplanned landing Wednesday in Cleveland, after a window in the plane broke during the flight.

Southwest Flight 957 was traveling from Chicago to Newark, New Jersey, and made a safe landing at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport. There are no reports of injuries among the 76 passengers.

Passengers have tweeted photos of the broken window, which may have been in the emergency exit door.

In a statement from Southwest, the airline said the crew made the decision to land the plane in Cleveland for a review of "one of the multiple layers of a window pane." The statement said the aircraft maintained pressurization throughout the incident. Initial reports said the landing in Cleveland was an emergency, but there was no emergency landing was requested, the airline said.

According to CNN, passenger Linda Holley texted her son Ryan with a picture of the damaged window.

"Window on plane cracked during flight. Landing in Cleveland to be safe. Everything ok but scary ," one of her texts read.

In another, she said: "Yes Southwest. Just heard loud noise. Very large crack with piece of window missing at bottom. Just landed. Everything ok. Don't know plan yet"

The incident comes a little more than two weeks after a passenger was killed when an engine blew out on a Southwest flight and debris shattered a window.
