Bailey received 2,338 votes, or 62.66%, while incumbent Commissioner Ronnie Worley got 1,393 votes, or 37.34%.

Absentee ballots that were received between 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Election Day will be counted May 23, said Adam Ragan, director of the Gaston County Board of Elections. He said any provisional ballots will also be counted on that day.

The results will be certified on May 24.

Worley was elected to the Board of Commissions in 2016. He previously served on the Cramerton Board of Commissioners and served two terms as mayor of Cramerton.

The primary was Bailey's first bid for elected office.

In the N.C. lieutenant governor's race, Hal Weatherman came out ahead of Jim O'Neill, with 74.41% of the vote statewide, according to the unofficial results.

In the N.C. auditor's race, Dave Boliek garnered 53.26% of the vote, beating challenger Jack Clark.
