Southgate needs to shake things up against Switzerland, says Bassett

Former England defender Laura Bassett says Gareth Southgate is likely to stick with the same style of play against Switzerland but with some new faces.

Southgate’s Three Lions face world no.8 Switzerland in a friendly on Tuesday night, following their Uefa Nations League clash against Spain on Saturday.

And the 61-capped England defender told The Football Show she expects Southgate to make a few changes for the match in Leicester.

“[Against Spain] I think he will remain with the majority of those players that played a lot of the World Cup so we will see those players again,” she said.

“Then maybe during the Tuesday game against Switzerland, Southgate may bed in some of the other players like Luke Shaw or James Tarkowski or whoever.

“I think we will see a lot of our style, formation and a lot of the players that played in the World Cup a lot.”
