BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – From the Bluff to Sin City, the Southern University marching band, the Human Jukebox, is going to perform with Grammy-winning artist Kirk Franklin for the Super Bowl 25th annual Soulful Celebration.

Director of Bands at Southern University, Kedric Taylor said this opportunity is not only putting Southern University on the map, but it’s inspiring for many.

“It’s an encouraging thing as well for students that come from areas in which we come from, to let them know that no matter where you come from, you can have these same opportunities,” Taylor said.

Jayden Bradley is a member of the Human Jukebox and has been excited ever since he received the news about the performance.

As he gets ready for Las Vegas, Bradley emphasizes that not only is he excited for the once in a lifetime opportunity but also getting to work with someone he looks up to.

“I was ecstatic because I’m like Kirk. Me personally. I play at my own church, I play bass, I’m like, I get to meet one of the biggest phenomenons of gospel music,” he said.

After hours of training for the Soulful Celebration performance, Taylor said he is grateful the marching band is able to receive the opportunity and showcase the drumline.

“Something that’s pretty cool, because you know, a lot of people don’t get to see the drumline nowadays,” said Taylor.

He said, “for us to have the opportunity to partner with him and learn from him and actually work with him. I think this is going to be an opportunity for our students that we will never forget.”

For those tuning in to the performance on Saturday, Feb. 10, Taylor and Bradley said the performance will be full of energy, and meet the standards of Human Jukebox fans.

“I would expect greatness, expect the standard, we’re the Human Jukebox. You can’t get nothing better than that,” Bradley said.

The Human Jukebox’s performance will be pre-recorded and air on Saturday, Feb. 10. Other performers include Mary Mary, T-Pain, Robin Thicke and Earth, Wind and Fire.
