South Shore dining: A reopening, 2 expansions, 1 closing and everything Brazil

The South Shore restaurant scene is as busy as ever going into the spring.

While one longstanding favorite is closing, at least for now, more restaurants continue to open from Milton down to Kingston.

Each new place offers its own blend of flavors and ambience, from the casual to the more upscale and light lunches to full dinners, with several sweet pit stops along the way.

Here are a few recent restaurant happenings.

The Plate in Milton plans to close soon

The Plate restaurant plans to close this spring, according to a recent Facebook post on its page.

The restaurant has been in business for 12 years. It started at 27 Central Ave. in Milton before opening a second − and now sole − location above the Milton Fruit Center Marketplace at 10 Bassett St.

"While we hoped to extend our lease, fortune was simply not on our side," The Plate owner and chef Suzanne Lombardi said in the post.

The restaurant's seasonal menu features all-day breakfast and lunch with a healthy and upscale range of items. It also serves soups, smoothies and juices. The menu items are made from locally sourced ingredients when possible.

While a precise closing date has not been announced, the restaurant's Easter menu is listed on its website.

In the post, Lombardi did not say whether she planned to look for a new location, and an email to the company asking for a specific closing date did not receive a reply.

Plymouth's Keegan Kreations expands to Kingston

Keegan Kreations has brought its sweet treats and baked goods to 136 Main St., Kingston, five years after opening its original downtown Plymouth location at 20 Court St.

The bakery held its official opening Sunday, March 17.

Owners Keegan Yee and his wife, Yilin, have been providing updates on their new venture through the bakery's Facebook page for several months. They thanked staff and customers after their opening weekend.

"Once again our team has gone above and beyond with their dedication and love for the bakery," they said. "We are beyond grateful for the support and patience from our customers to the team behind it all. It really has been a dream come true."

Keagan Yee, a graduate of the baking and pastry program at Rhode Island's Johnson and Wales University, was born and raised in Malaysia. He immigrated to Boston in 1996.

He began his post-graduation career at Taj Boston Hotel (now The Newbury Boston), designing wedding cakes. In 2013, Yee moved to the Berkshires and became the pastry chef at Wheatleigh, a luxury hotel in Lenox.

It was there, according to a 2021 Patriot Ledger interview, that he fine-tuned his signature croissants from scratch.

Before opening the store, the Yees sold their goods at farmers markets around the South Shore and Cape Cod.

The store's offerings can be purchased in person and online. To view Keegan Kreations' menu, or to place an order, visit Keeganskreations.com.

The Blueberry Muffin's Pembroke location marks 4th for the business

It seems safe to call The Blueberry Muffin a chain with the opening of its new Pembroke location, which marks the fourth location for the business.

The new location opened March 11 at 35 School St. at the site of the former Gather Restaurant, which closed in October 2023 as part of its relocation to Canton.

The husband-and-wife team of Kevin and Rosemarie Brown opened their first restaurant in the Cedarville section of Plymouth in 1998 in a small, out-of-the-way space they soon outgrew. It has since relocated up the road a bit to its current − and larger − location. The business also includes locations at The Pinehills in Plymouth and in Kingston.

The Blueberry Muffin offers far more than its namesake. The restaurant serves a full breakfast menu along with burgers and lunch sandwiches.

Paisano's reopens in Kingston under new management

Paisano's in Kingston has been resurrected under new management after being closed for more than a decade at its original 6 Pembroke St. location.

A 2011 fire at the restaurant forced it to close. At the time, a notice at the site said it was temporarily closed for repairs.

Instead, the restaurant quickly changed hands and reopened as Finna's Tavern, which closed in 2019.

"A traditional South Shore restaurant that has been very successful in the past is now making a comeback with new ownership but the same hardworking spirit," the new Paisano's website says.

Paisano's is owned by chef Silvio Pieper, who also operates the Sea Street Cafe in Hyannis.

The restaurant is named after the Italian word for friend or countryman, and opened in 1992 under original owner Kevin Hynes.

Hynes now owns and operates several South Shore restaurants including Stockholders and Precinct 10 in Weymouth, Bay Pointe Waterfront Restaurant in Quincy and 42 Degrees North and 71 Degrees West in Plymouth.
