A South Mississippi restaurant known for its country cooking buffet is closing for good

PawPaw’s Kountry Kitchen, a restaurant on the grounds of the Indian Point RV Resort in Gautier, is closing for good after Sunday.

The restaurant’s operators, Bill and Lisa Hester, made the announcement on Facebook this week.

“Due to the relentless rise in food and operating cost, we find ourselves unable to sustain our operations without lowering the quality of the food,” the Hesters wrote. “This we will not do.

“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has walked through our doors, shared meals with loved ones and made memories within our walls. Your support has meant the world to us.”

The restaurant was well-known in east Jackson County for its breakfast buffet and Southern lunch specials. It had received many positive reviews on Yelp, with one customer saying the food, service and ambiance were “amazing. “ They added, “Great pricing as well, the whole family loved it.”

Some customers bemoaned the loss of the restaurant on social media. One patron wrote: “Oh, no. I am so sorry to hear this. You are my favorite place to come for breakfast and your delicious hamburgers. You will be missed so much.”
