South Lamar near Barton Springs reopened after emergency repair
AUSTIN (KXAN) — South Lamar Boulevard just south of Barton Springs Road has reopened Wednesday after crews worked for over eight hours on emergency repairs in the area.
Austin Energy said a car hit a pole early Wednesday morning and crews needed to close the road to safely do repairs.
Austin Transportation and Public Works said in a post on X at 7:46 a.m. there was an emergency street closure south of Lamar and Barton Springs and all lanes on Lamar were closed.
Austin Energy’s outage map around 8 a.m. showed an outage in the area with the cause listed as “An obstruction to the electrical grid has occurred (e.g., a traffic accident). Restoration time depends on the extent of the damage.”
The repair time was originally estimated for 9:49 a.m. but the estimation changed to 3 p.m. later Wednesday morning. The outage was removed from the map around 3:20 p.m.
Drivers reported standstill traffic on Lamar in the area around 8 a.m. ATX Transportation and Public Works recommended seeking alternate routes or avoiding the area if possible.
