South Korea says against acquiring nuclear weapons despite North's test

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's defense minister said on Thursday that the government opposed having its own nuclear weapons, after North Korea said it had tested its first hydrogen nuclear device. "We consistently pursue the Korean peninsula's denuclearization," Han Min-koo, the defense minister, told lawmakers, rejecting growing calls for a South Korean nuclear deterrent against the North.
