Gov. Kristi Noem is back in front of crowds talking about her new book, "No Going Back," less than a week after backing out of several national TV spots citing bad weather in South Dakota.

On Monday night, Noem was in Florida, speaking to Club 47 USA, described on its website as "the largest club of Trump supporters in America." Noem is one of several politicians identified on the shortlist to becoming a vice president candidate for former president Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, though no announcement has been made by Trump at this time.

Noem posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, about the event, saying, "People were very excited to hear the stories that the media refuses to tell."

Noem has faced widespread criticism for some parts of the book, including a passage where she recounts shooting her 14-month-old dog Cricket, who she said had killed several chickens and was described as "untrainable," before shooting a family goat that she had described as "nasty and mean."

A Politico story on the Club 47 USA event describes one attendee of the talk bringing her rescue dog to the speech, intentionally sitting close to the stage so it would be visible.

The book also claims that Noem had met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which was later described by Noem spokesman Ian Fury as a "small error" that would be corrected in future printings of the book.

The Argus Leader has asked multiple times when Noem may be making local appearances and if she would be available for a local interview, but has yet to receive a response. The Argus Leader has also reached out to the publishing company about details of her book tour, and whether the national TV spot cancelations signal the tour has been changed in some way because of the controversy. The Argus Leader has not received a response there as well.
