Sources: NBA moves trade deadline before All-Star Game

The NBA has approved a Board of Governors vote to change next season’s trade deadline to Feb. 8, 2018 – before the All-Star Game – league sources told The Vertical.

The Board of Governors voted on Tuesday to move the trade deadline from the Thursday following the All-Star break to the second Thursday of the month before the Feb. 18 game, league sources told The Vertical. NBA teams were informed of the change on Wednesday, effective for the 2017-18 season, league sources said.

For NBA teams, the move narrows the trade-deadline focus earlier in the season. Beginning next season, executives will no longer have All-Star weekend to finalize trade ideas and chart plans for the following week.

Last season, the Sacramento Kings worked to finalize the trade of DeMarcus Cousins to the Pelicans during the All-Star Game in New Orleans.
