Sources: Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert expected to miss 2 months after knee surgery

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert underwent surgery to repair a small meniscus tear in his left knee on Friday and is expected to miss two months, league sources told The Vertical.

Shumpert was re-evaluated this week when it was determined that he needed surgery to clean up the injured knee. The Cavalies announced on Thursday night that Shumpert would undergo surgery.

Shumpert has played key minutes for the Cavaliers at times this season, with the team going 9-4 in the 13 games (six starts) he’s played. He has been durable for the Cavaliers over the past three seasons, appearing in an average of 83 games per year, combining the regular season and playoffs.

Shumpert has averaged 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game this season.

Shumpert, 27, joined the Cavaliers via trade from the New York Knicks in 2015. He was a rotation player for Cleveland’s championship team in 2016.
