NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A person with knowledge of U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone's campaign details says the congressman plans to announce that he is entering the race to complete the U.S. Senate term of the late Frank Lautenberg.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to give campaign details. He also says volunteers are seeking signatures on a petition on Pallone's behalf.
Pallone's entry in coming days would make at least a three-way Democratic primary in August with Newark Mayor Cory Booker and U.S. Rep. Rush Holt.
Latuenberg died on Monday. The election to complete the term is scheduled for October.
