Sounds Like the 2020 Ford Bronco Will Have a Removable Roof After All
Nobody really seems to know what the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco will look like. At the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced the storied nameplate would return in 2020, but the automaker never showed what the next Bronco could look like.

But according to a new report from The Truth About Cars, the next Bronco will almost definitely give you the option of driving with the wind in your hair.

Writing at TTAC, Mark Stevenson states that, according to "two well-placed sources" knowledgeable about the project, the 2020 Bronco will feature modular roof panels that can be removed and stowed inside the vehicle. The feature, apparently called "Air Roof," mimics the snap-out roof panels currently seen on the Jeep Renegade, Stevenson reports.
In theory, this sounds a lot like the removable-roof design we suspect will be featured on the next-generation Jeep Wrangler set to debut in 2018. We've previously reported that the next Wrangler will have a permanent roof perimeter structure with pop-out panels on the top and sides, replacing the current design where the entire roof (either a fiberglass hard top or a canvas soft top) can be removed to expose a roll cage underneath. This new roof design will enable Jeep to offer open-air driving on the long-awaited Wrangler pickup.

Elsewhere on TTAC, Stevenson writes that the 2020 Bronco will be "more of a Wrangler competitor than a [Toyota] 4Runner clone." It's unclear if this means the Bronco will offer both a two-door and four-door body style, as the Wrangler does today. If so, that piece of information seems to contradict our report from earlier this week stating that the new Bronco will most likely be a four-door SUV, based on the fixed-roof Ford Everest.
If TTAC's sources are correct, the next-generation Bronco might end up being a faithful rendition of the original. And we're very glad to hear it.
