OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Governor Kevin Stitt and the new comprehensive health care system, SoonerSelect, celebrated a successful launch day on April 1.

As of April 1, 2024, members of SoonerSelect can use their coverage and benefits inside and out of visits to their primary care providers. All of the same health care services offered by SoonerCare but with extra benefits now being included to help improve the outcome of members health.

‘The program is not ready’: Oklahoma provider raises concerns with SoonerSelect

All health and dental plans in Oklahoma will provide coverage through members of SoonerSelect.

Improved vision services for adults including funds for contacts or new eyeglasses, home-based asthma interventions such as deep cleaning home carpets and providing hypoallergenic bedding, meals or money to help with food insecurity, and memberships to local community organizations and gyms are among those extra benefits.

“With access to value-add benefits and improved care coordination, members are empowered to take control of their own health and wellness. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) will promote the highest standard in health care delivery through SoonerSelect,” said Ellen Buettner, Chief Executive Officer of the OHCA.

OHCA set out to embody the goals that were laid out by Gov. Stitt and the state Legislature through an outline that helps guide SoonerSelect and achieve the goals set for it.

  • Improve the health of Oklahoma Medicaid members and the health of Oklahoma communities and the State as a whole;

  • Improve care delivery through a provider-led model with emphasis on access to high-quality, person-centered, and coordinated care;

  • Improve member and provider experience; and

  • Improve financial sustainability of the Oklahoma Medicaid Program.

“SoonerSelect changes the way many Oklahomans think about health care,” said Buettner. “I am excited about the positive effect this will have on the health of our state and change the way future generations will use SoonerCare.”
