Sooner Schooner takes on the South

Mar. 8—Boomer and Sooner are headed to the South.

The University of Oklahoma announced Friday that the Sooner Schooner will tour the other 15 cities home to colleges in the Southeastern Conference in what the university is calling the "Oklahoma Sooner Schooner Roadshow."

In addition to ponies Boomer and Sooner, members of OU's RUF/NEKS and RUF/NEK Lil' Sis student spirit programs will accompany the Schooner through the South. OU's social media and content creation team will also make the journey to capture some of the history and traditions of other SEC schools.

"We want to help introduce the OU brand in person and in their backyards, at the same time help highlight for our fans the pride and passion of the nation's most prestigious conference," said Leah Beasley, the OU executive associate athletics director for external engagement, in a press release.

OU representatives characterized the tour as a "goodwill initiative."

"We believe the 'Oklahoma Sooner Schooner Roadshow' will contribute to the anticipation surrounding this new era of OU Athletics as a member of the esteemed Southeastern Conference," Beasley said.

"While preparations for our transition to the SEC and our relationship-building process with current members of the league have been in full swing for a while, our hope is this tour will foster additional camaraderie and collaboration with our soon-to-be fellow institutions."
