Sony needs a device that will allow the company to stand out from the sea of Android smartphones currently flooding the market. Earlier reports had suggested that Sony is prepping a high-end smartphone with a 20-megapixel rear camera and now, According to Chinese website ePrice, the company will soon launch the Xperia i1 equipped with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display and a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. The selling point, however, will be its 20.7-megapixel rear camera with a 1/2.3-inch ExmorRS sensor, the same as the Galaxy Camera and other point-and-shoot cameras. By comparison, the iPhone 5 and brand new Lumia 1020 feature a 1/3.2-inch image sensor and a 1/1.5 inch sensor, respectively. The Xperia i1 will also include 2GB of RAM, a 3,000 mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD slot and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, in addition to being both dust and water-resistant. Sony is expected to announce the Xperia i1 at the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 4th.
