CES 2015: Top 7 wearable gadgets you should check out right now

With the release of the Apple Watch right around the corner, Android Wear device manufacturers are doing everything they can to make their mark. On Monday, Sony revealed that the recently released SmartWatch 3 will be receiving a stainless steel makeover which begins rolling out around the world in February.

LAST TIME: Sony’s first Android Wear smartwatch is finally here

Like the original model, the stainless steel SmartWatch 3 will feature a 1.6-inch 320×320 TFT LCD Transflective display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and 420mAh battery. It has an IP68 waterproof and dustproof certification and will charge with any standard microUSB cable.

Sony is also introducing the SmartWatch 3 holder, “allowing users and partners alike to customise SmartWatch 3 with any standard 24mm watch strap.” This will be available in early 2015.

The company is also working with developers to bring improved functionality to the watch. In January, all SmartWatch 3 units will come standard with the Golfshot and iFit apps out of the box. But the biggest software announcement comes in the form of Lifelog, a popular Android lifestyle app which is making its way to the SmartWatch 3.

“Lifelog is inspiration through insight, and our first partners are helping us bring this to life in new ways” said Yasuharu Nomura, Director of Experience Planning at Sony Mobile Communications. “We specifically designed the Lifelog platform on open principles, with capability that will help developers to build new experiences and access the Sony ecosystem like never before – it’s going to be an exciting year ahead.”

Sony has yet to reveal a price or release date for the stainless steel SmartWatch 3.
