Sonoco Products names M. Jack Sanders as next CEO

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Packaging maker Sonoco Products Co. on Monday named M. Jack Sanders as its next president and CEO.

Sanders' appointment is effective April 1, following the retirement of current CEO Harris DeLoach Jr. The Hartsville, S.C.-based company also named Sanders to its board, effective immediately, expanding it to 13 people.

Sanders, 59, is now Sonoco's president and chief operating officer.

DeLoach, 68, was named as CEO in 2000. He has been a member of Sonoco's board since 1998 and its chairman since 2005. He will remain executive chairman after his retirement.

Sanders joined Sonoco in 1988 as national sales and marketing manager for the company's reels business. Before assuming his current position, he served as the executive vice president of the company's global consumer businesses.

DeLoach joined Sonoco in 1986 as vice president of administration and general counsel. He held a variety of positions over the years.

Sonoco shares fell 24 cents to $29.83 in morning trading.
