Sonny Rivera sculpture installed at Alamosa Park
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After calling for artists in 2023, Albuquerque is installing a new sculpture at Alamosa Park. The 3-foot tall bronze sculpture is called “Stalking Her Prey.”
The sculpture is a mountain lion created by New Mexican artist Reynaldo ‘Sonny’ Rivera, born in Mesquite in 1938. The artist has other bronze sculptures around the city – for example, Rivera co-created the Oñate explorer sculptures outside the Albuquerque Museum.

The latest sculpture at Alamosa Park was chosen by a selection committee and will get an on-site dedication soon.
“This sculpture by Sonny Rivera is a glowing symbol of our commitment to the beautification of the Southwest Mesa,” Jeanette Baca, president of the Alamosa Neighborhood Association [ANA], said in a press release. “The artwork’s installation is a result of the collaborative efforts of the City and ANA. We are extremely proud to have this addition to our park and our community.”
