Sonim Launches the XP3300 Force, the Phone with the World's Longest Talk Time

Today at Mobile World Congress, Sonim announced the XP3300 Force, an ultra-rugged GSM mobile phone with the world's longest talk time. Sonim claims the XP3300 has up to 24 hours of talk time and 800 hours (nearly 33.5 days) of standby.

The XP3300 is a quad-band GSM device with GPRS and EDGE data capability. It will include an Opera Mini Web browser and City Cruiser GPS navigation, as well as a 2-megapixel camera with video capture.

Of course, Sonim phones are also notoriously tough. We've run the tests to prove it. At CES this year, we even saw one soaked in a dry ice/antifreeze mixture, only to successfully connect a call right after being pulled out. Sonim claims the XP3300 is its toughest phone yet. It surpasses military specifications for ruggedness, and is water and dust proof. It is certified against salt, fog, humidity, transport shock, and thermal shock. And it comes with Sonim's three-year, no-questions-asked replacement warranty.

Sonim is in the process of integrating a number of Mobile Resource Management (MRM) applications into the XP3300 to make it appealing to enterprises and government organizations to help them locate, track and manage mobile workers. The XP3300 will eventually offer alerts, data collection and reports, event confirmation, fleet tracking, job scheduling, real-time work order updates, timecard reporting, and workforce location monitoring.

Sonim claims these applications will be available as a software update in the second half of 2011, after they have been fully tested.

The XP3300 will begin shipping immediately, according to Sonim, for $499 unlocked with no contract. It works on both AT&T's and T-Mobile's 2G EDGE networks.

We recorded over 18 hours of talk time when we tested Sonim's previous phone, the XP1300 Core. We have the XP3300 now and will be putting it through its paces. Expect a full review soon.
