Son accused of killing 79-year-old mother in Bronx apartment: sources

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man is accused of killing his 79-year-old mother during an argument in their Bronx apartment building on Monday, according to police and law enforcement sources.

Melvin Arias, 57, was arrested and charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of Francisca Trinidad, according to the NYPD.

A roommate found Trinidad face up in the living room of the apartment at 760 Grand Course at around 10:30 p.m., sources said. Authorities found her unconscious and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Sources said the woman had a hand injury but it was unclear how she died. The medical examiner ruled the incident a homicide, police said.

Arias was also charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to court records. His arraignment was pending Wednesday.
