Somerset County dispute ends with gunshots, two people jailed, troopers say

CENTRAL CITY, Pa. – A domestic dispute in Shade Township Tuesday ended with gunfire and two people in Somerset County Jail, authorities said.

State police in Somerset alleged that Melissa Diane Monaghan, 40, was sitting behind the wheel of a Subaru Outback with a 2-year-old child seated next to her when she pulled a pistol and fired two rounds in the direction of Allen J. Hitechew II, 39.

Troopers charged Monaghan with aggravated assault with a weapon, simple assault, terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of children.

According to a complaint affidavit, a woman living in the 7400 block of Lincoln Highway told troopers she allegedly heard the neighbors arguing and then heard gunshots.

The woman said Monaghan was allegedly sitting in a Subaru Outback parked in a driveway.

No one was injured in the shooting. Troopers recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun.

When troopers entered the couple’s residence, they reportedly found deplorable living conditions.

As a result, they charged Hitechew with endangering the welfare of children.

The couple was arraigned by on-call District Judge Susan Mankamyer, of Boswell, and sent to Somerset County Jail after each failed to post $10,000 bond.
