On solar eclipse day, don't keep these wines in the shadows | Phil Your Glass

Lapis Luna cabernet, sauvignon blanc, and pinot noir are the perfect wines to enjoy while watching the solar eclipse April 8.

Unless you've been living in total darkness for the past few months, you've probably already heard about the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8.

For the first time in 200 years, Ohio will be in the path of totality. The last time this occurred was in 1806 (Ohio became a state in 1803), and it won’t happen again until 2099.

Lapis Luna wines aren’t just a trendy pick to sip on for this rare occasion. I’ve tasted the company's entire lineup, and at $14.99, I love them all to the moon and back.

You won’t need any special glasses to gaze at the label's colorful artwork that was created from 400-year-old copper engravings. With the naked eye, you can see they depict a faceless hero’s journey to reach for the moon.

I only selected a red and a white for this article, since we can’t possibly drink any more in the less than five minutes those in its direct path will experience total darkness - and for Akron, that's more like three minutes.

The Lapis Luna sauvignon blanc has incredibly enticing lemon zest aromas. This white is impeccably balanced with wonderful citrus aromas.

You don’t need a special occasion or food to enjoy this wine, as it is great on its own. However, the perfect storm on your palate would be a carry-our order of octopus salad from Lock 15 Brewing Company or a Akronite roll from Cilantro Thai & Sushi Restaurant.

The Lapis Luna pinot noir is smoother than a Michael Jackson moonwalk. Cosmic cherry vanilla flavors are in every sip.

Grab a lawn chair and your favorite pizza and wait for the fireball in the sky to slip behind the moon. I had the pinot and the cabernet with a carry-out mushroom pie from Luca’s New York Style Pizza in Stow.

You can buy the sauvignon blanc at Wise Guys Lounge and Grill, Lock 15 Brewing Company, Crave in downtown Akron, Grapes in a Glass in Canton, Brimfield Liquor, Wines at the Crossing in Alliance, Top Shelf of Ohio in Jackson Township, and Buehler’s in Medina on River Styx and in Jackson Township.

The pinot noir is available at Gray Mart in Munroe Falls, Corkscrew Johnny’s in Richfield, Peppers Fresh Market in Northfield and HomeBuys in North Canton.

Both wines are also available at both Akron Mustard Seed Market locations, Beau’s Market in Copley, Krieger’s Market in Cuyahoga Falls, Meyers Lake Drive Thru in Canton, Fishers Foods on Fulton in Canton, and Fromage du Monde in Canton.
