Soft lockdown initiated at high school in Las Vegas after gun found during police stop

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A high school in Las Vegas was placed in lockdown Wednesday after police discovered a firearm in a vehicle, officials said.

The soft lockdown occurred at Sierra Vista High School near the intersection of Buffalo Drive and Robindale Road in southwest Las Vegas.

According to a letter sent to parents of the high school’s students, the soft lockdown was initiated due to police activity near the school, during which police stopped a vehicle in the school’s parking lot in which they discovered a firearm.

Sierra Vista High School officials said one adult was arrested and that there was deemed to be no threat to the school.

According to CCSDPD, the person arrested was Alfred Pamintuan. He faces two counts of assault with the use of a deadly weapon, two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon on school/child care property, and one charge of drawing a deadly weapon in threatening manner.

Pamintuan posted bond Thursday and is scheduled to reappear in court on June 18.

Jessica Lovell, principal of Sierra Vista High School, said in the letter that students remained in their classrooms, and staff continued regular learning activities. Any parents who have questions or concerns about the lockdown are asked to contact the school directly.
