She spoke about repatriating Irish ancestors who came to America.

“Many of our Irish ancestors came to this country not necessarily willingly but first to survive the famine and then to help their families survive in Ireland and they had a hole in their heart for most of the time they were away,” Maria Fowler explained.

“It’s great to come together to be able to celebrate our Irish heritage. Just have some friendship, camaraderie,” said Society of Irish Women President Alice McDermott.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of when the Society of Irish women formed in Lackawanna County.
