Smyrna man accused of burning $10K worth of personal property

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Smyrna man is behind bars after a joint investigation revealed he burned $10,000 worth of another individual’s personal property, officials said.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), the incident took place on Thursday, April 18. Officials said 46-year-old Marcus Anthony Ellis, of Smyrna, allegedly “burned numerous personal effects that did not belong to him.”

Some of the items burned included clothing, furniture, electronics, computers and photos, which were allegedly owned by the person who lived with Ellis.

Rutherford County Fire Marshal Josh Sanders said in addition to the felony charge of setting fire to personal property, Ellis also faces a felony charge for filing a false report to a police officer.

Amid the course of the joint investigation, RCSO deputies also charged him with domestic assault and evading arrest.

Ellis is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $9,500 bond, officials said.

He is expected to appear in General Sessions Court on June 25.
