The Russian city of Belgorod came under shelling on the morning of May 9, BBC and local Telegram channels reported.

Residents were warned of missile danger throughout the night by Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, with his latest warning posted at 4:00 a.m.

Within minutes, videos and photos of the shelling began to appear on local channels.

Smoke could be seen rising above the city, likely indicating fires.

Russian sources claim the Ukrainian army struck the city.

Several vehicles were seen ablaze in the city, likely indicating debris from a downed missile or drones, claimed local news channel Go31/News Belgorod.

Belgorod and the Belgorod Oblast came under aerial attack from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Gladkov later alleged, mentioning direct hits on residential apartment buildings and vehicles.

Eight people were injured and four hospitalized, he claimed. 34 apartments across 19 residential buildings were damaged, as well as a home and 37 vehicles, Gladkov alleged.
