How Will Smith's Kids Are Reacting to His Suicide Squad Role: 'This Is the First Time Where I'm Cool for Real'

Jaden and Willow Smith never appreciated that big Willie style – until now.

Will Smith said at a Saturday panel for Suicide Squad at the San Diego Comic-Con that his children finally think their dad's kinda cool thanks to the action flick.

"This is the type of thing that, no matter how cool you think you are, your kids think you suck," Smith, 47, shared. "This is like the first time where like I'm cool for real. The Suicide Squad, I don't know what it is, but something about this idea and something about this cast has really captured something."

He added, joking, "So my kids are doing what I say, at least for the next couple of months."

In the antiheroes film, Smith plays comic book villain Deadshot.

Joined by his castmates, including Jared Leto and Margot Robbie, for the panel, Smith also shared anecdote about Suicide Squad's rehearsal process.

"Jared was really the first person that like really kicked it into another gear," Smith explained. "So we were rehearsing. He was working separate, so the Joker was working separate. So one day there's a knock on the door, and this guy walks in, this tough looking guy walks in, he says, 'I've got a message from Mr. J.' "

Smith said he immediately freaked out, calling out for security to have the strange man intercepted.

"And he puts a box down on the table in front of Margot," he explained. "He says, 'That's a gift from Mr. J, in honor of your relationship.' I was like, oh Mr. J, okay, okay. So Margot starts to open the box, and there was a note, and it was from 'the Joker.' "

Inside the box? A live rat.

"Listen, listen, I was playing Deadshot, but if I had had pearls on, I would have clutched them," he joked. "So for the whole movie, that's the kind of stuff Jared was doing. He really kicked everybody into another level."

The cast previously opened up about Leto's shenanigans earlier this year.

Said Robbie at the time, "Everyone was up to no good on this shoot. It was a long shoot. People were enjoying themselves."
